The next stop on my mini tour of Asia was Singapore. From the moment I landed I felt significantly more at ease here. It was much less chaotic, it was cleaner, and best of all, people spoke perfect English!
My hostel was located in the Little India neighborhood and as soon as I checked in I started exploring. It was early evening and so I just checked out the area around my hostel and got a bite to eat. The next day I was up early and ready to take on the city! Singapore is a very futuristic city and has a lot of cool architecture. One of my favorite things was the Gardens by the Bay, a park with man made trees. It was so cool! I'm pretty sure you can go inside of them but you had to pay, and being a budget traveler I settled for a cool pic outside ;)
That evening I went back to the Gardens by the Bay to watch the light show that they do every night. There I was, laying on the ground, looking up at these incredible trees and listening to music that syncs with the movements of the light. All of the sudden "Part of Your World" from the Little Mermaid came on and I'm not going to lie, it made me tear right up. It was just the most magical moment! After the light show we wandered around the park, and as cool as it is during the day it's even more spectacular at night!
The next day one of the girls in my dorm room told me about a rain forest that was near by. To me, this was one of the most fascinating things about Singapore; it was a metropolitan city yet a 20 minute bus ride away there was a rain forest! Since I had no plans for that day I joined her for a tree top hike. There was a suspended walking trail through the canopy and everything! We began walking and all of the sudden we saw groups of people crowded and approached to see what was going on. When we got a bit closer we saw that there were wild monkeys everywhere! It was so neat! It was a little unnerving to cross the bridge with monkeys all over it but I found that they're pretty friendly!
In the evening I got all dressed up and took myself on a date to the Marina Bay Sands hotel. Alas, I did not have the $350 to stay the night and get a picture in their famous infinity pool, but I did have a drink on their rooftop terrace. Although it was $18 dollars for just a mock tail, the view more than made up for it! And best of all, I got to see the Gardens by the Bay light show from a birds eye view! Although I couldn't hear the music from so far away it was incredible to see the tree lights twinkling from a distance.
