After an amazing long weekend in Krakow it was time for me to take the long bus ride down to Budapest. Eight hours later they dropped us in a giant parking lot, no information center or anything..ummmm cool. I headed for the metro signs and by the grace of God found a worker who spoke English. He explained the two metros and the bus I would have to take before I finally got to my hostel..AKA another hour with my backpack in 90 degree heat. π¨ I managed the metro bit ..or so I thought, until some man approached me yelling at me in Hungarian. I just smiled and said "sorry I don't speak Hungarian" and continued walking. He stepped in front of me showed me his badge and pointed to my coworker. Through broken English he asked for my ticket then proceeded to tell me since I hadn't validated my ticket I would be receiving a fine of 60 Euro (which I never payed and am probably wanted in Budapest for) but ANYWAYS when I got to the hostel and reunited with Jen all troubles were quickly forgotten and we had the most amazing time!
Budapest has been on my bucket list for years now but I was never able to work it into my travels so when Jen decided to fly in there I was so excited! Turns out it was 100% worth the wait!

Budapest was formerly two cities separated by a river. The Buda side is known for its rolling green hills and relaxed lifestyle. The Pest side is the thriving metropolis, and where all the epic nightlife is π We started off staying on the Buda side but loved Budapest so much that we extended our stay and gave the Pest side a try as well. Despite the 100 degree temps, both sides are absolutely amazing!
On our first day we braved the heat and did a walking tour of the city which was super interesting then set out to find some traditional Hungarian dishes..the food scene here is to die for π At night we went to Szimpla, a building that was bombed during one of the World Wars but later turned into a bar..such a cool atmosphere! The next day we climbed to the top of St Stephen's Basilica which is said to have the best view in Budapest..It was a rough climb but that view π
One of the coolest things about Budapest are the Turkish baths that were left behind. Right in the middle of the city center there is this relaxing retreat..Such a cool experience to spend the afternoon here!
On our last night in Budapest we were ultimate tourists and went on a Segway tour Although I have always scoffed at this I have zero regrets.. It was SO much fun! It was also pretty sweet to see all the buildings along the river lit up at night. I could not think of a better way to spend our last night in this incredible city. π
