First stop: Sydney

It only made sense that my first stop in Australia would be Sydney. Not only was it the cheapest option, but I also had SO many mates to reunite with! The first of whom was Amal, my Welch friend who I met on the Topdeck tour a few weeks beforehand. Bless her heart, this chick came to pick me up at the airport, cooked me dinner and let me sleep in her bed ( a SERIOUS luxury after hostel surfing for nearly a month).

After a goodnight sleep and a home cooked meal I was ready to explore Sydney! My first stop was obviously the Opera House. I can't explain the emotions I felt when I saw it for the first time. It is something I have dreamed about for years and finally I was seeing it in all its glory! As I got a closer look it was even more impressive. All of the tiles have gold accenting and its harbor-front location makes it truly majestic.

The next day I decided I definitely needed to checkout the world famous Aussie beaches. Everyone raves about Bondi, so I grabbed my swimmers and caught the bus over. I have seen quite a few beaches in my day but this place was so impressive! Not to mention here I was basking in the rays while all my friends and family in CT were getting snowed in (sorry not sorry guys)

My favorite part of this beach is the Coastal Walk that stretches from Bondi to Coogee Beach. For two hours I walked along the path, taking in stunning views, beach hopping, and of course stopping for ice cream along the way. 🍦

Later in the day I met back up with Amal and another friend of ours from the Topdeck Tour. Aaron has an Escape Room (if you're in Sydney check it out; amazing!) and Amal and I decided we were going to give it a whirl. We somehow managed to make it out with a few seconds to spare! After all that stress we needed more ice cream of course so we got some food and walked around the harbor front. This place is even more magical at night!

Suddenly I only had one full day left in Sydney..where was the time going? I still had one more mate that I knew I HAD to see. Romy is a girl I met in my hostel in Seville on my very first solo trip. As female solo travelers, we immediately hit it off and even reunited the following weekend in Grenada! I hadn't seen her since Spain which was over 3 years ago but it was like no time had passed at all! It was amazing to spend the afternoon catching up and enjoying lunch in the park. Hopefully it isn't another 3 years until we are reunited again!

On my last night in Sydney Amal and I went to her favorite Mexican place where we wore sombreros, ate quesadillas and had so many laughs.
It was Friday night so after dinner we headed to Establishment where they were playing 90's hits, including Backstreet Boys😍. We had so much fun dancing the night away and although it was a tearful goodbye I have to be grateful for all the fun we had. Sydney you are an amazing city and I will be back! 💓

Gringuitas en Sudamerica

A few years I studied Spanish for a summer in Costa Rica, and one of the girls I met at my school has become one of my very best friends. We were in Costa Rica at the same time, for the same amount of time (I definitely think this was fate) and we just clicked right away. We had so much fun over those four weeks but unfortunately lived on opposite coasts so we never saw one another. One day, she messaged me saying she was planning a trip to South America and asked if I wanted to join her. My immediate answer was YES! Hands down yes. Did I care that I already had a big trip planned that year? No. Did I care that it would be a stretch financially? Nope! Did I care that I was a maid of honor in my sister's wedding weeks after I got back? Absolutely not! (Sorry Kier) For months we spent hours on the phone together; a mix of catching up and planning for our trip. Although we hadn't seen each other in 5 years I was so excited to meet up and take on another part of the world together...
